History

In 1971, the late Lloyd A. Kaufman, a driven salesman from Long Island, came to Washington, DC, and found no opportunities with established signage companies. Undeterred, he built SUI by partnering with architectural firms, general contractors, and directly with local businesses, incorporating it as Signs Unlimited, Inc. in 1981.

Over the years, SUI has collaborated with a diverse range of clients, from property developers to design firms, creating meaningful projects for businesses of all sizes—a testament to Lloyd’s vision and determination.

Today, Lloyd Kaufman’s legacy continues through his wife Cheryl and their three sons, who have taken the helm at SUI. Cheryl leads the company as President and Chief Financial Officer. Micah leads SUI’s business development efforts, Jared oversees production and installation, and Joshua manages the company’s operations. Under their leadership, SUI has expanded into environmental and experiential graphic design by blending branding, messaging, and space.

With over 50+ years of industry experience and a skilled team, we remain a leader in the signage and graphics industry, with a vision for continued growth in the years ahead.
